Oak trees are considered important for many different types of insects, birds, and mammals. Bur Oak is the most common oak in Ontario. It is a native tree to northwestern Ontario, although not found frequently here. Bur oak, as with all oaks, is slow growing but long living. Bur oak likes full sun but tolerates some shade. It grows in a variety of soil conditions, from medium wet to medium dry.

Our oaks are sold as one or two year seedlings which means they are quite small. It is important to plant trees small so their roots are not pot bound. This means the trees will live longer when planted younger. You may need to protect your oak tree from deer.

Seeds sourced from Manitoba.

Quercus macrocarpa
